President William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States. He was beginning his second term as President after winning the election in 1900. On Sept. 5, 1901 he and his wife were attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when he was shot by as assassin waiting in line to shake his hand. Army officer; in command of the San Carlos Indian Reservation in Arizona from 1879 to 1880. In 1882, he led the army in the Battle of Big Dry Wash. He was stationed at Fort McDowell and Fort Huachuca and took part in the Geronimo Campaign of 1885-1886. He was Inspector General of the Department of Arizona from 1890 to 1893.
